Directed by Don Hall (Big Hero 6) Strange World follows a family of explorers led by Searcher Clade, (voiced by Jake Gyllenhaal) to investigate a world changing plant-power source. Clade’s dad vanished decades ago during an expedition and Searcher residing in fictional Avalonia with electricity now spread throughout the rich land, everyone seems content.
When President Callisto (Lucy Liu) pays them a visit informing their power supply is dying the group travels into a new land (think Jules Verne style) to salvage their world. The Clades bring their three-legged dog into the bright-colored land and discover bright-colored creatures and without revealing too much in this one-of-a-kind/gay version from the vaults of Disney I enjoyed the story line, the animation and rich colors of this epic along with Meridian’s mom (Gabrielle Union) this is a very enjoyable family fare that runs scarce these days. In one scene Ethan (Jaboukie Young White) reveals his love interest to his grandfather Jaeger (Dennis Quaid). That was nicely played out considering all the differences that threaten the mission.
The film hits theaters Thanksgiving week. 3 stars (out of 5).
