Through the past 11 years, MCU has earned themselves the top spot on the totem pole starting with Iron- Man and eventually, a few months ago, Avengers: Endgame. It was during an Avengers movie Tony Stark, aka Iron-Man made Peter Parker (Spider-Man) a Avenger. Before that, Spidey’s first solo outing was kept in check only in his friendly neighborhood. When Thanos’s finger snap turning most of the population into dust, or as Nick Fury refers to it “a blip”, and the Avengers returning things back to normal that should have ended phase 3 of the series. No, it supposedly ends with Spider-Man in “Far From Home” which swings into the big screens Tuesday July 2nd.
With the death of his friend Tony, Peter just wants to get away from all the super-hero stuff and vacation with MJ (Zendaya) but no suit. He’s just plum burnt out. As eager he was to jump right into the fights, he recalls Tony’s advice to pump the brakes a tad. But no, on his Europian trip a series of disasters occur and Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) summons the spider out of Peter. You knew it can’t be a peaceful time off. Just when he was about to swing into action a flying caped stranger dubbed Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) jumps in to help fight the evil force. Director Jon Watts who also takes credit for Homecoming smoothly steers this film in the right direction and brings back Peter’s friends, Ned and MJ which adds some much welcomed comedy in just the right places like Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) tossing a Captain America like-shield at some bad guys and asks himself “How does Capt do that?” It didn’t boomerang back to him. What a classic line.
At the beginning credits we hear Dolly Parton’s “I will Always Love You” as a tribute to the fallen Avengers and those who have retired. In this second feature featuring the now twenty-three-year-old Tom Holland, we finally see Spider-Man, who in the film is only sixteen, stepping up to the plate and with Gyllenhaal beside him we have a fantastic movie. Spider-Man has always been my favorite Marvel character and I will visit his world wide web always. I always wonder if he ever runs out of webby stuff? Then what? Something to think about as this movie will razzle and dazzle you as his new suit does him. With Zendaya who also gave up a great performance in “The Greatest Showman” and “Homecoming” involved in the action, I anxiously await the next installment in the Incredible Marvel Universe. Shout out to music by Michael Glacchino and costume designer Anna B Sheppard. You can never forget what all goes into a movie. I always make it a point to stay through all the end credits in every movie to appreciate all involved in the productions All the planning and wardrobe.
4 1/2 stars out of 5. Stay seated for the end credits by a well known past Spider-Man actor among other things. this film has the same running time as Spider-Man: Homecoming give or take two minutes. It’s talent as Tom Holland who is from England can act with an American accent and hide his British tone. That’s talent. Writer Steve Ditko penned another fine film. And remember folks, don’t text and swing.
