Well, suddenly we have a triage of movies opening Fathers Day weekend competing for first place with The Flash, The Blackening and Disney/Pixar latest effort Elemental. Some will be drawn to action with DC’s The Flash but my pick of the week is this film with fire, rain, earth and water coexisting in densely populated New York.
Water people get around through designed high-rises in a story by Kat Likkel and John Hoberg. Directed by Peter Sohn the story evolves around elements of nature with fire element Ember (voiced by Leah Lewis) and water Wade Ripple (Mamoudou Athie). Fire works at her family’s deli hoping someday to take it over.
The corner is the popular hangout and with Fire’s hot temper when something doesn’t go her way fireballs get flung, a water pipe bursts and fire suddenly meets water but elements don’t mix. The story is drug down by chase scenes`being saved by advanced tech and some good art work.
I actually enjoy these Pixar films but as for this one with all it’s Father’s day competitors to go up against it will have to fight to survive but it’s still my pick.
It opens in theaters this Fathers Day. 2 1/2 stars
