The Report (2019) R 120min Drama/Thriller

In these political motivated days and with dirty laundry displayed in office, more movie related themes are surfacing. Maiden director/writer Scott Z. Burns is bringing his political thriller “The Report” to select theaters on November 15 about idealistic staffer Daniel J. Jones (Adam Driver) who uncovered post 9/11 secrets when he is recruited by his boss Senator Dianne Feinstein (Annette Bening).

In his report he exposes extreme torture by waterboarding and more extreme measures to get answers from the captured terrorists. The results yield nothing. Joe Hamm plays Obama’s chief of staff Denis McDonough who has uneasy feelings about the CIA’s torture techniques but still rides along. Jones risks jail with his brave journalism by poking around underground and meeting informants. Driver’s character plays it so cool while showing his tiredness in his research as he pecks away at a typewriter for his results. ***
