Staring Constance Wu, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Mercedes Ruehl and Cardi B
Jennifer Lopez has a hit with her latest movie Hustlers inspired by a true story by Jessica Pressler in New York during the 2008 stock market financial woes. The film was written by Lorene Scafaria and stars Jennifer Lopez who plays Ramona a former centerfold and now a strip club dancer who takes a few new girls under her careful eye and teaches them to dance. When Wall Street takes a bad turn and money becomes scarce, the dancers, Cardi B, Constance Wu, a single mom, who is in it to support her family. Keke Palmer and Lili Reinhart work to entertain greedy men with fat wallets and unlimited credit card balances. This is where Scafaria transforms the dancers to toxic con artists and they put a lot of effort into their work by working high end to sleezy clubs. Sex sells but this is not that kind of film as Scafaria steers away from that. They become experts at pole-dancing while preying on corrupt men who have bankrupt the economy.
The men have no remorse over evil ways and the girls know that the rich businessmen won’t return home to share their bad fate and loosing tons of mula. They don’t want their wives to know where they’ve been and explain why they let their little heads do the thinking for their big heads. The men are drugged, robbed foolishly and sent home in a taxi. They get them drunk enough to rack up their credit cards but sober enough to sign a check. as the gentlemen are deserving what comes their way by the villians/heros. The women come out with new furs, luxurious apartments and are able to provide for their families. This film is a good lesson of friendship with great power on the side and these women are changing up the rules. This film was shot in only 29 days and will hustle up some serious dollars this weekend as it will be rapturously received. Look for Julia Stiles as the journalist getting the whole story from Ramona and I will say it’s good to see Stiles who said she would even mop the floors on the set just to land a part. This movie is buzzing about the 50 yr old Lopez, who smoked consistently throughout the movie, being up for a long-overdue Oscar. Just keep your drinks covered up. She looks great for 50. This movie is not about showgirls. It’s about Hustlers. 4/5
