With every horror movie there must be some kind of humor to it. Greta is a perfect example of what director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) has to serve up. He has a fine cast with Isabelle Huppert, Chloe Grace Moretz and the wonderful Maika Monroe. It’s a simple synopsis with mystery, drama and horror along with some comical moments mixed in at just the right time. On a daily commute on a subway a young woman (Moretz) finds an abandoned purse on the train and against the better wishes of her roommate (Monroe), returns it to the rightful owner Greta (Huppert) only to find out how lonely Greta is. They become quick friends since Greta is a loner with her daughter living far away and her mother passed.
Soon the friendship turns evil and Frances (Moretz) realizes she is just there to fill in the gap and now Greta becomes an obsessed creepy stalker that just can’t be shaken off by the cops or Frances. She just can’t escape the psychopathic grasp that Greta has cast upon her. Events become deranged, the piano plays frightening tunes by Greta and twists and turns are served up to keep up the suspense and some in a humourous manner. This film is creepy and amazing and hands down to the film crew who hit all the right angles. Honorable mention goes to the terrific Maika Monroe whom stole one special scene later in the film. I will also would invite her to be my yoga instructer at any given time. So stick around like gum for Greta. It opens everywhere March 1, 2019. B rating
