Bombshell (2019) R 1h 48min

Politics is dirty. With that scandals normally follow. Some or only the ones that slip out of the newsroom make the headlines then things go public ugly. Fox news can be a joke at times and they are the main focus in this drama involving three female blonde leads: Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie. Director Jay Roach along with writer Charles Randolph make this talk-show/drama humorous with a real feel.

It tells the story what is selling in America and the powerful candidates behind the dirt with Fox News CEO Roger Ailes (superbly played by John Lithgow) and how he wanted to trade ‘favors’ in order to sustain the popularity vote in his toxic atmosphere. Makeup artist Kazu Hiro deserves a lot of love for her prosthetic transformation work of John Lithgow. Charlize’s Megyn Kelly is spot-on as the main lead plus was such a great cast and with Gretchen Carlson being portrayed by Nicole Kidman who lost her network job convinced it was do to non-compliance of sexual favors. Margot Robbie playing Kayla Pospisil rounds out the three victims of news room workforce sexual harassment as a fictional character created for this film.

There is mention that President Trump might have been involved as this is based on true events. Is anything ever a true story or just what we want to add to be true events? After all it’s just three super chicks calling out the perverted bad guy(s) and winning. That’s every day drama. There are lots of real-life clips from former political characters intertwined in the movie maybe just for space fillers. This flick that should have gone straight to Netflix but it’s fun to watch the bombshells aka “sex symbols” especially From From ‘Hustlers’ to ‘Charlies Angels’ to ‘Bombshell’. These are women in empowerment. The film opens everywhere December 20 and is rated R for sexual material. ***
