It’s never a good thing if anyone cusses but when tweens do it, well, in a comedy such as “Good Boys” it can turn comedic but not intelligent. From the folks that gave us “Sausage Party” of which I laughed a lot, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky comes that kind of R rated movie. The film stars Jacob Tremblay (“Wonder“) who plays Max leads the way as a boy just wishing for a girl and goes to great lengths to get there. Thor (Brady Noon) is the kid who pushes it to the extreme to be popular one. Lucas (Keith L. Williams) is the honest boy who just wants to be cool.
The three grade school boys start their adventures out by skipping school, accidently posing stolen drugs while being pursued by two teenage girls (Molly Gordon and Midori Francis). The boys use Max’s dad’s (Will Forte) drone to spy on the girls without the dad’s knowledge. The boys are attempting to make a party in time and that takes them to a frat house where they indulge in sipping beer, talking sex playing, paint ball and evading the cops. All in a day’s work. They even learn how to kiss and hold on to sex toys. Even though the kids swear a few times, it isn’t another “South Park” but as a raunchy, naughty comedy it might do well at the box office until the next big thing bumps it. The movie is rated a hard R for strong crude sexual content Drug and alcohol material and language all involving tweens. It opens on August 16 everywhere. 2 1/2 stars (out of 5)
